About Us

Welcome to Schenk Elementary School!

Schenk Elementary is a kindergarten through 5th grade school with a diverse student body. Our 405 students come from a variety of neighborhoods with about two-thirds walking to school. Our goal is to provide the best possible learning experience for every child. We are continually expanding our environmental opportunities with the school garden, school forest and outdoor classroom. We also focus on student leadership through the teaching of social emotional skills that will help create future leaders. In partnership with families and community organizations, we strive to provide services to meet the needs of our school community as well as contribute to its growth and strengthened practices.

At Schenk we are educators in action who disrupt inequitable systems and affirm diverse identities.  We create a joyful, inclusive community with a  deep sense of belonging through anti-racist practices, a growth mindset, quality relationships, and high expectations.

ELL (English Language Learners) Services

At Schenk we value the diverse languages and cultures of our students.  To support our multilingual students we have an ESL Program in which ESL Teachers and Bilingual Resource Teachers collaborate with classroom teachers to support our students’ academic achievement and language development.  We also have Bilingual Resource Specialists on staff or available to strengthen communication with our multilingual families and to support our students throughout the day.
