Ally Night

Schenk is an nationally recognized as a Welcoming School. Students celebrate their excellent ally behavior at Ally Night.  To be a Welcoming School means to embrace family diversity, avoid gender stereotyping and work to end bullying and name-­calling. Together we can all be allies at Schenk

Read Your Heart Out

In honor of national African American Parent Involvement Day, African American History, Family and Community Engagement and Culturally Responsive Literacy, Schenk hosts its annual Read Your Heart Out event. We invited parents of African American students as well as community members to come out and read a book to our students. Books that are selected are written by an African American authors and about African American history and/or culture.  There are also a selection of bilingual and Spanish books.

Shark Bites

Students are often given “Shark Bites” by their teachers when they are showing these qualities: Safe, Helpful, A Learner, Respectful and Responsible, and Kind. 

School Dance

Students and their families love to come to our School Dance. We have great music, food and, of course, dancing!

Movie Nights

A great way to spend an evening with your family! We also have a few Movie nights in Spanish! Check our calendar for dates and movie titles.

Positive Behavior Support

PBS stands for Positive Behavior Support. The goal of PBS is creating safer and effective schools through community building and learning problem solving strategies for conflict resolution. It is a school-wide approach to educating all children using research-based behavior support systems. It includes school-wide procedures for teaching behavioral expectations and processes for decision making. Appropriate behaviors are recognized and celebrated through classroom and school-wide celebrations.

Field Trips

Whether it's walking to nearby Olbrich Botanical Gardens or a trip to the State Capital, Schenk students learn on field trips.
