Steel Beams, Roofs and Plumbing: See the Latest 2024 Referenda Construction Site Updates

As construction funded by the groundbreaking 2024 Referenda continued through July, we checked in on the progress of the new buildings for the Black Hawk Middle School/Gompers Elementary School and Sherman Middle/Malcolm Shabazz City High School campuses.
At the Black Hawk/Gompers buildings, MMSD partner Findorff highlights the recently installed floors and roof while electricians set up wiring. Underground, plumbers are laying storm and sanitary lines.
MMSD partner Vogel Bros. Building Company gives us a tour of the current state of the Sherman/Shabazz buildings, where steel beams crafted at a sustainable mill are being installed and floors are preparing to be laid. Next up is installing trusses for the gym roof before finalizing the interior and exterior walls.
